MEET NATE
DAD. BASEBALL COACH. LAWYER.
YOUR MP FOR BEACHES—EAST YORK
Nate Erskine-Smith grew up in Beaches—East York and is raising his own family here. As our MP, he’s known for his independence and willingness to speak his mind. As Minister of Housing, he’s on a mission to get the government moving to build the homes we need.

“On the picket lines with my parents, I saw firsthand the difference that politics can make”

Nate grew up in our east end, raised by two retired public school teachers. His first involvement in politics was on the picket line to support his parents in the Harris years.
He attended local public schools Bowmore and Malvern, and later earned degrees in politics and law from Queen’s and a master of laws from Oxford where he specialized in constitutional law. He was once a decent pitcher, and played baseball through high school and for both universities.
Before politics, Nate honed his skills in commercial litigation downtown Toronto. He also provided pro bono legal work for a range of different clients and causes.
He and his wife Amy are raising their two young boys in our east end. Amy is a respected chef, author, nutrition professor, and researcher. She’s almost finished her PhD in nutritional sciences at U of T.

“Working for the Beaches—East York Community is the best job I’ve ever had”
Nate was first elected as our local MP in 2015, and he’s been re-elected twice since.
He’s earned a reputation in Ottawa for his independence and willingness to speak his mind on issues that matter to constituents.
He’s also helped to shape the government’s agenda in many ways, including to save lives in the opioid crisis, support workers, reduce poverty, protect kids online, take stronger climate action, deliver funding for kids’ cancer research, improve animal protections, and more.
In 2021, he started the Uncommons podcast, welcoming expert guests and opinions from across the political spectrum. Uncommons has consistently been rated as one of the country’s top politics podcasts. Past guests include Prime Minister Trudeau, Prime Minister Carney, and Dr. Jane Goodall.

”I will continue to be the voice for local communities and to shape the agenda at the national level”

In December 2024, Nate was appointed Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities. He was re-appointed to that position by Prime Minister Carney in March 2025.
During his tenure, Nate delivered for Toronto by finalizing a deal to help the TTC acquire new subway cars, unlocking our waterfront, and creating Toronto Builds, federal low-cost financing of $2.55 billion to support almost 5,000 new rental units, with more than 20% affordable.
Nationally, he’s on a mission to treat the housing crisis with the scale of ambition we need and to get every level of government moving faster to build new homes. He’s been focused on advancing policies to drive down the costs of home-building, double the share of community and nonmarket housing, and address homelessness by treat housing as a home first.
Nate’s standing again to be your MP for Beaches-East York because these are very challenging times that demand experienced and serious leadership, and because we need to both protect our progress and build on it.
